Service to Mark the Anniversary of the Death of C J La Trobe: 11am Charles Joseph La Trobe was remembered at a service at St Peter’s Eastern Hill, coinciding with a memorial service at St Michael the Archangel, Litlington, Sussex, where he is buried. The Vicar of St Peter’s, Rev Dr Hugh Kempster, invited La Trobe Society members and their friends to the service, followed by refreshments. Address: 15 Gisborne Street, Melbourne. |

Saturday – 7 November 2015 Mini Book Sale: new and used books related to La Trobe: 2 – 4pm An opportunity to purchase at fantastic prices a range of books and other items related to Charles Joseph La Trobe. Titles included the beautiful editions of his Australian Notes and Landscapes and Sketches, biographies, editions of diaries and letters, many rare titles by a variety of authors, as well as prints of La Trobe’s landscapes and CDs of his father’s piano sonatas. Sunday – 18 & 25 October 2015 History Week at La Trobe’s Cottage: Cottage open 2 – 4pm Tours focused on Charles Joseph La Trobe as the pioneering administrator in Victoria’s foundation and also provided an insight into family life at his ‘Jolimont’ estate. Spring Opening at La Trobe’s Cottage: 2 – 4pm A special spring opening of La Trobe’s Cottage, celebrating the 176th anniversary of the arrival of Charles Joseph La Trobe, Victoria’s first Governor, and his family in early Melbourne. Visitors were able to see how the 1840s-50s garden has developed and enjoy the glories of spring. |

Bishopscourt Visit: 6 – 8pm Bishopscourt, the official residence of the Anglican Archbishop of Melbourne, was open to members of the La Trobe Society on this special occasion, when our fellow member, Archbishop Philip Freier, Primate of Australia, spoke to us about this historic building completed in 1853 and sketched by Charles Joseph La Trobe. Sunday – 19 and 26 April 2015 Australian Heritage Festival at La Trobe’s Cottage: open 1 – 4pm Visitors were able to learn how Charles Joseph La Trobe, Victoria's first Governor, and his family lived in early Melbourne. They were also able to hear of La Trobe the visionary administrator, who was called upon to govern chaos on a huge scale following the discovery of gold in Victoria. |

Café Là (Trobe) – La Trobe’s Birthday Evening Picnic: 5.30 – 7.30pm Opportunity to enjoy the award-winning garden at La Trobe’s Cottage in a relaxed atmosphere, and to be present at garden personality Jane Edmanson’s unveiling of the La Trobe Society commissioned painting of the garden by talented artist Jo Reitze. Jane and Jo jointly planted a Camellia japonica ‘Wellbankii’, and a new series of greetings cards was launched. A ceremonial cutting of a birthday cake and champagne in celebration of La Trobe’s 214th birthday followed next door at Domain House. (La Trobe Society event) |

Australia Day at La Trobe’s Cottage: Cottage open 1 – 4pm Visitors joined in the celebration of Australia Day in the Domain with guided tours of the Cottage, flag raising ceremonies and rifle salutes.
