Charles Joseph La Trobe: Landscapes and Sketches

Charles Joseph La Trobe: Landscapes and Sketches
Introduced by Dianne Reilly.
Notes by Victoria Hammond.

Presenting all of La Trobe’s known pictures in a landmark publication, this book reveals not only the artistic skill in his landscapes and sketches but also their value as major historical documents.

Of the 437 landscapes and sketches in this volume, 170 are large images with half of these painted in colour; the remainder are in sepia or pen and ink of his travels in Italy, Switzerland, North America, Mexico, Port Phillip, Tasmania and England. La Trobe’s life and travels, including his time in Victoria, are illustrated in this book that contains a scholarly biographical introduction by historian Dr Dianne Reilly and erudite annotations by art historian Victoria Hammond.

This beautiful book printed by Tarcoola Press is available in both Library and Printer’s Edition. The Library Edition is sumptuously bound with matching slip case. The Printer’s Edition is bound with a hard cover in a blue fabric with silver embossing.
